Mary Getlik

January 6, 1931 — April 29, 2025

Mary Getlik, 94, of South Bound Brook, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, in Florida. Born on January 6, 1931, in Slovakia, Mary carried her proud Slovak heritage with her throughout her life, which was marked by dedication to family, faith, and community service.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph Getlik in 2005; son James Getlik in 2023; son-in-law Joseph Pellicane in 2000; and two brothers, Michael Skirka and Joseph Skirka, and one sister, Anna (Skirka) Lisitza.

Mary is survived by her daughter Karen Pellicane; son Michael Getlik (Susan Getlik); grandsons Matthew Pellicane (Jenny Cifuentes Pellicane) and Daniel Getlik (Brittney Getlik); granddaughter Kristyn Getlik (Kenneth Titus); great-grandchildren Kaden and Karson Titus; and sister Helen Kaminsky.

Mary worked part-time for Rutgers University through the years, devoting much of her time to nurturing her family and supporting various local organizations. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Church and actively participated in their Rosary Altar Society. Her commitment to the community extended to her role in the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Bound Brook Fire Department and her involvement with the South Bound Brook Seniors, where she cultivated friendships and supported those around her.

An enthusiastic supporter of her children and grandchildren, Mary took great joy in cheering them on during school sports and Little League events. Her passion for family was evident in her active participation in school functions and PTA activities.

Mary was a fan of the New Jersey Devils and enjoyed following the Slovakian and Czech hockey players of the NHL. She also found joy in gardening, tending to flowers, and cooking and baking Slovak specialties that brought warmth to her home and delighted her loved ones.

Services are pending.

All arrangements are under the care and supervision of Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home.
