Karen Hoffmeister Embley, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on December 1, 2025, surrounded by the family she cherished. Born in Plainfield, Karen was the beloved daughter of Patrick and Bertha (Rhodes) Hoffmeister. She grew up in Piscataway and was one of the first classes to attend the high school. She then moved with her family to Vineland and continued high school there before becoming a licensed hair dresser.
In the late 1970s, Karen moved to Bound Brook, where she became a familiar and friendly face to many. She worked for years as a waitress greeting everyone she served at Jim’s Corner Luncheonette, Patullo’s Tavern and various other restaurants and diners, with her trademark warmth and bright smile. Karen had a zest for life and a personality all her own. She was an avid wrestling fan, never missing Friday Night SmackDown or Monday Night Raw. She loved sharing that excitement with anyone willing to listen, especially her grandchildren. She treasured time spent with friends and found her greatest joy in being with her family. She also shared a special bond with the three dogs in her home over the last 15 years. Above all, Karen was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her kindness, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Gathering with the family will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Hagan – Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, with a prayer service beginning at 6:00. Graveside services will be 12:00 pm, Friday, at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 741 E Walnut Rd Vineland, New Jersey 08360.
