JoAnne B. Felegi, 91, lovingly known as “Mimze” passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Bridgewater, NJ surrounded by her loving family. Born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, JoAnne was the daughter of the late John J., Sr. and Anna (Knapp) Rattie and stepmother Mary Rattie. After marriage, she moved to Rahway, New Jersey where she worked as a secretary for Martin Plastics in Linden. She then relocated to Manville, NJ as a fulltime mom and homemaker and ultimately settled in Bound Brook, NJ, where she became a longtime and devoted member of the community. JoAnne was a faithful communicant of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in Bound Brook. Her strong Catholic faith guided her throughout her life, and she held a deep devotion to the Divine Mercy. Known for her gentle spirit, warm heart, and “belly hugs,” JoAnne loved spending time with her family and lived independently until an accident in 2017 which necessitated her moving into assisted living. She continued to find joy in simple pleasures — specifically completing jigsaw puzzles, which she worked on with patience and care and watching old movies including westerns. “Mimzie” and her family had many fond memories of “The Farm,” a 1,000-acre agricultural farm in a very rural area in Ringtown, Pennsylvania where her parents lived as caretakers for the property where the “city” family members could enjoy the peace of the outdoors and enjoy large family gatherings as often as they liked.
JoAnne was predeceased by her husband William Sr. in 1995, her sisters Dorothy Murray, Florence Gretz, and stepsister, Dorothy Felegi. She is survived by her son, Dr. William B. Felegi and his wife Laura of Bridgewater, her daughter Barbara Jo Taylor of Dunellen, her grandchildren Amanda and Andrew Felegi; her great grandchild, Kai Felegi; her brother John Rattie of Pennsylvania; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gathering with the family will be 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Friday, July 25, 2025, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, followed by an 11:30 AM Memorial Mass at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Bound Brook. Inurnment at Bound Brook Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Felegi’s name may be made to The National Shrine of Divine Mercy.
