Elaine Barnoski (Costabile)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and loving wife, Elaine Barnoski (Costabile), on the evening of September 6, 2026.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Josephine Costabile; her brother, Anthony Costabile; her sister, Theresa Williams; and her beloved son, Michael Barnoski.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Pete Barnoski, whose devotion to her was unwavering. During the last seven months of Elaine’s life, Pete rarely left her side, spending at least 12 hours a day with her. She is also survived by her daughters, Jennifer Daino (Barnoski) and Christine Ascoli (Barnoski); her son, Peter Barnoski, Jr.; and her beloved granddaughters, Melanie Ascoli and Gabriella Daino, whom she absolutely adored.

Elaine worked at John Wiley & Sons for more than 30 years and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the River Road Fire Department.

But a list of where Elaine worked or the organizations she belonged to could never really explain who she was.

She was everything a mom could be. When her children were growing up, she was there for everything. She volunteered in every classroom, showed up for every sport, and made sure her children always knew that whatever they were doing mattered to her.

She was famous for the family’s annual vacations to Wildwood. What began as a simple family vacation grew over the years into a weeklong party filled with family, friends, laughter, and memories that will be talked about for generations. She loved going to tricky trays and could always find a reason to have fun.

Elaine may also have been the New York Yankees’ biggest fan. Even during the last few months, when she was struggling the most, she was adamant that she was not going to miss a Yankees game. She loved the New York Giants too, although every season inevitably seemed to end in disappointment. Sometimes they played so badly that she would put the game on mute just so she wouldn’t have to listen to the announcers.

And then came her granddaughters.

When Melanie and Gabriella were born, Elaine made them her life. She was more than their Nana. The love she had for them was immeasurable, and being their grandmother brought her incredible joy.

In Elaine’s world, there were no strangers. Our door was always open, and our house was always loud. She was the hug you needed, the voice on the other end of the phone when you just needed to rant, and the person who would drive anywhere and everywhere simply to drop off something you needed. There was never a question of whether she would be there. She just was.

At the end of the day, there is really only one way for us to describe Mom: she was simply perfect.

We are who we are today because of her. We were blessed beyond measure to call her Mom, Nana, and wife. We will miss her every day, but we know she will never fully leave us. She is in the family she built, the traditions she created, the stories we will continue to tell, and the countless memories she gave us.

Until we meet again, Mom. You were simply perfect.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Elaine’s memory may make a contribution to her beloved granddaughters, Melanie and Gabriella.

Gathering with friends and family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026 at St. Frances of Cabrini Church, 208 Bound Brook Avenue, Piscataway.

Entombment to immediately follow at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
