Catherine Hoats

Catherine Hoats, 89, peacefully passed away on August 22, 2025, in Hillsborough, New Jersey. Born in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, to the late William and Emma May Hoover (née Munson), Catherine was a proud graduate of Hanover Township High School before relocating to New Jersey.

She began her professional life at Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick. After starting her family, Catherine made the heartfelt decision to stay home and raise her children. Later, she returned to the workforce, joining the Tax Collector's Office in South Bound Brook as a tax clerk. Her commitment to public service and community was evident as she rose to the role of Tax Collector, a position she held with distinction until her retirement in 1997.

A devoted member of the Reformed Church of Bound Brook until its closure in 2022, Catherine joyfully served in many capacities: as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and on the Consistory. She also found great joy in the community of the South Bound Brook Senior Citizen Center, where she helped organize refreshments and crafted cards for fellow members. Catherine especially treasured time spent playing bingo and cards with her friends.

Above all, Catherine loved her family deeply. Whether celebrating milestones or relaxing at the lake house, she created countless treasured memories with her children and grandchildren.

Catherine was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Donald Hoats, in 1989; her parents; siblings Buddy, Kenny, and Gerry; and her dear friend Richard Mignella.

She is survived by her daughter Cathy (Peter) Paprzycki; her son John (Cindy) Hoats; granddaughter Calla (Peter) Biernacki; grandson Ian Hoats; sister Betty Skrovronsky; brother Russell Hoover; and many extended relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook. A prayer service will begin around 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at Bound Brook Cemetery.
