Antonio Colalillo, 92, died peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025. Born in Boiano, Campobasso, Italy, he was the son of the late Michele and Maria (Matelli) Colalillo. Antonio proudly served in the Italian Army and was an accomplished athlete in his younger years, excelling in competitive soccer and cycling. In 1961, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Bound Brook, where he and his beloved wife, Amalia, raised their family after marrying in 1965. In 1971, Antonio opened Anthony’s Barber Shop in Somerville, which quickly became a neighborhood institution. He served generations of customers until his retirement in May 2020. A devout catholic, Antonio was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph Church in Bound Brook. He was an usher, a member of the Holy Name Society, and active in the Mt. Carmel Society. An amazing cook, he found joy in tending to his vegetable garden and was known for his homemade tomato sauce, prepared and canned each September. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife and friends from the Bound Brook Seniors Club.
Antonio was predeceased by his infant daughters, Rosemary and Michelle; his twin brother, Giovanni Colalillo; and his sisters, Antoinette Romano, Vittoria DiRe, and Guiseppina Marzilli. He is survived by his cherished wife of nearly 60 years, Amalia “Molly”; his loving son Mark and his husband Jay; his grandchild Gianni; and his step-grandchildren, Zachary Tooker and his wife Erica, and Amelia Tooker and her wife Jacqueline; his step great-granddaughter, Josephine; his sister-in-law Antoinette Colalillo; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Gathering will be 9:00 - 11:00 AM, Friday, June 13, 2025, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, Bound Brook, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM, at St. Joseph Church.
